My name is Nana, and I recently took in baby Messiah so he would not have to enter foster care. I have had custody of his older brother for the past four years, and when Messiah’s mother gave birth on March 9, 2026, she reached out to me in tears because she was unable to care for him due to drug use. I was not sure how I could manage taking in a newborn, especially knowing how expensive it can be, but I could not let him be separated from family. My grandson was heartbroken at the thought of his little brother going into foster care, and he begged me to care for him. After spending two weeks in the NICU because he was drug exposed and needed morphine, Messiah was discharged to me on April 1, 2026.
Since coming home, Messiah is still going through withdrawal symptoms and needs extra comfort and care every day. Swaddles help soothe him, and I also need diapers, a stroller to get him to doctor appointments, and a swing to help keep him calm and supported. He does receive WIC, but there is no financial support at this time, and the costs of caring for a newborn have added up quickly. I am doing everything I can to give Messiah a safe, loving, and stable home while he heals.
If you are able to help, any support would mean so much to our family. Your kindness will help me provide the essentials Messiah needs and make sure he has comfort, care, and the medical follow-up he deserves. Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time.
