"Hi everyone, please stop scrolling. My name is Devesh Gupta and I have something to share about my son, Naman Agarwal.
My son has struggled with anxiety and depression for the past couple of years. When he started to self-harm, our eyes finally opened to his condition. The pressures that our Indian society puts on our children have left them riddled with problems that sometimes, we as parents, don’t even understand completely. The concept of Mental Health itself is subjected to taboo and is considered a weakness. I am sure that every society can understand this though each one of us tackles it differently. My eyes finally opened when I walked into my son’s bedroom and saw him the most dejected I had ever seen him. Our intelligent, sweet, and dynamic son had begun self-harm. The pressures of school and societal expectations had begun to diminish his light. Bred in a conservative family, he began to feel more misunderstood by his loved ones and his deteriorating mental health spiraled in silence.
Because of the pandemic and the financial troubles it brought upon everyone, we even had to withdraw him from college for the time being. During the past few weeks, it occurred to me that what our society had done to our son had to be changed. He is a strong man who wishes, more than anything, to look after himself. Maybe he felt like he had to, growing up because he didn’t feel heard by the people around him and was forced into this lonesome independence.

But he does need help and all of us realize that now. As parents who only wish for our son’s happiness, we want to help him with all we have and all that we can do. I am sure you can understand what it feels like when you cannot provide that for your children.
We need money for medication, therapy, and if possible, then hospitalization. I am asking all of you to donate a little for my son’s cause and help us provide him with the help that he needs. Our son is suffering and we can’t help him by ourselves anymore.
I request you sincerely to help us help our child if you are able to. If you choose to donate and if you cannot, I hope that you will share this post on your social media. Regardless of whether or not you choose to, I am here to provide the help that you need as well. After all, what I have learned from this experience is that sometimes all we need is a little nudge in the right direction, a listening ear, and some compassion.
Thank you. I appreciate the time you have taken to read through this."
