A Plea for Support

My name is Marie, and I am writing to you today from Canada with a heartfelt appeal for my mother, Nalda Campbell, who lives in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Her community was among the hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa in late October 2025, and she now finds herself in a situation of profound need.

My mother has always been a pillar of her community, the person her neighbors turn to for a shared meal, a safe place to stay, or simply a comforting word. She has never had much in terms of material wealth, yet she has consistently given of herself with boundless generosity. To see this woman, who has been a source of strength for so many, now facing such dire circumstances is deeply painful.

The hurricane stripped away a lifetime of her hard work. In the early hours of the morning, she was awakened by the terrifying roar of her roof tearing away and windows shattering. Forced to flee in complete darkness through driving rain and violent winds, she found refuge with a neighbor, one of the many she had supported over the years.

Returning at daybreak, she was confronted with utter devastation. Tragically, one of her two beloved dogs did not survive the storm. Now, she and her surviving dog, who remains her sole companion, face each day amidst the ruins of her home. They are left without a roof, furniture, or windows, and with severely limited access to basic necessities such as food and clean water. The woman who always ensured others were fed now struggles to provide for herself.

While aid organizations are performing heroic work across Jamaica, there remains a significant challenge in delivering timely assistance to more remote parishes like St. Elizabeth. My mother’s predicament is a sad example of this gap. In a community of thousands affected, she waits, wondering when help will reach her.

Every donation will be directed exclusively toward helping my mother rebuild her life with dignity. Funds will be allocated for:
• Essential home reconstruction, including roofing and windows
• Replacing lost furniture, appliances, and household essentials
• Securing adequate food, clean water (including a new water tank), and basic necessities for her and her dog
• Covering other immediate costs for their survival and recovery
I am committed to full transparency and will ensure that every contribution is used precisely for these stated purposes.

My mother has never been one to ask for help for herself; she was always too focused on giving it. Now, the roles are reversed. The woman who gave so much of her heart to her community is now sitting in the rubble of her home, clinging to the hope that compassion will find its way back to her.

Any contribution you can make, no matter the size, serves as a critical lifeline. It is a powerful affirmation that her lifetime of kindness has not been forgotten. Let us come together to show Nalda that she is not alone and that the generosity of spirit she has always shown others can be a source of her own strength and recovery.
