Help Nala Heal — Critical Medical Care After Severe Trauma
Nala is not just my dog—she is my lifeline. She came into my life as a tiny, critically ill parvovirus puppy—the only survivor of her entire litter. From the very beginning, Nala has been a fighter. She beat the odds once, and since then, she has been my constant source of comfort, protection, and unconditional love. Now, she is facing another fight—one she cannot win without urgent medical care.
Nala recently experienced a severe traumatic event that has resulted in significant physical injury and psychological distress. She is currently being treated for a suspected anorectal injury, involving inflammation and damage to the rectal/anal tissue. This type of trauma carries risks of infection, abscess formation, soft tissue damage, and potential long-term complications if not properly managed. Her treatment plan requires repeated veterinary examinations and monitoring, diagnostic imaging (including X-rays) to assess internal injury and rule out complications, ongoing medical management (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and pain control), and close observation for signs of infection or delayed healing. This is not a one-time visit—this is an ongoing, intensive medical situation.
But the physical injuries are only part of what Nala is going through. She is also showing clear signs of post-traumatic stress and anxiety-related behavioral changes. Nala, who once trusted freely and loved without hesitation, is now hypervigilant, fearful of human interaction, reactive to sudden sounds, and struggling with basic daily comfort. These behavioral changes indicate a need for professional behavioral rehabilitation with a trauma-informed specialist, possible pharmacological support (anti-anxiety medication) to stabilize her during recovery, and a structured, low-stress environment to safely rebuild trust and reduce fear responses.
Watching this transformation has been devastating. Nala is not just a pet—she is my child, my emotional support, and my hero. She has carried me through some of the darkest times in my life, and now I am doing everything in my power to carry her through this. We are also seeking mental health support to cope with the emotional toll this has taken, as her suffering directly impacts my own well-being.
The financial burden of her care is overwhelming. Between emergency veterinary visits, diagnostic testing, medications, and the specialized behavioral therapy she urgently needs, the costs are quickly exceeding what I can manage alone.
