Help Nala have a chance to walk again

Nala is our 3.5 year old pitbull who has always been a big baby and a happy ball of energy. People often assume the worst and are scared of her because she’s a pitbull, but she always proves them wrong with how sweet and loving she is.

On 7/27, she suddenly became wobbly and lethargic. We thought she might be developing another ear infection, she's had them before and sometimes loses her balance when they occur. Normally, with treatment, she's back to her bouncy self within a day, but this time she didn’t recover as the ear infection was secondary and not the main reason to her sudden behavior.

After visiting our primary vet, her condition worsened. The next morning, she couldn’t move her back legs at all. She couldn’t stand at all, refused food, and wouldn’t go to the bathroom. Her back legs were limp so we rushed her to the emergency animal hospital. After blood work, X-rays, and an MRI, we learned she has a spinal disc injury. She now needs urgent surgery to remove the material pressing on her spine. Without it, she may remain paralyzed from the waist down and only has a 1-3% chance of recovery.

The surgery offers about a 40% chance of recovery, it’s not a guarantee, but it’s a chance we couldn’t not take. She’s only 3 and a half, and still full of life and love. Nala means the world to our family, especially to my 2 year old daughter Elina, who adores her dog sister.

We do have pet insurance, which is covers some of the costs but not all, which is money we do not have. We’re asking for help to cover any remaining costs, medication, follow up care, and possibly a dog wheelchair if Nala doesn't fully regain mobility.
