Help Nala get veterinary care for SRMA

My precious dog Nala…

Nala is my beautiful, gentle 2 year old Whippet, who very much saved me at my darkest time when I rehomed her at 5 months old.

She has had quite the journey since then and has grown from a very reactive dog to a calm, playful girl who adores chasing her little brother, squirrels and balls.

On 13th February, I noticed she wasn’t herself. She was lethargic, loosing appetite, whelping when jumping on the sofa and not racing up the stairs as she usually would. She was hopping up the stairs and generally struggling, experiencing pain in her hind legs. Her temperature was fluctuating and was treated as ‘fever of unknown origin'. An incredibly worrying situation.

On 15th February, her temperature peaked to 40.1 and I had to take her to a different vets as our original was far too slow to act. Unfortunately, that same evening, I got the call every owner dreads, my beloved girl was missing!!

She slipped her harness in the vet’s care and escaped. Frantically searching for her all night, me and two friends and mum had one sighting to go on at Wandsworth Bridge. My poor girl was running a fever, in pain and missing 10 hours! An amazing community came together to locate her and thankfully, she was found by a wonderful dog walker! I will forever be grateful!

After recovering, thankfully just with very sore paws and absolutely exhausted & hungry, she was still unwell and is fighting her own immune system, with SRMA (Steroid Responsive Meningitis-Arteritis -An immune-mediated condition that causes inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain and spinal cord ). It is treatable and remission is expected within 4-6 months.

Although I have insurance, unfortunately it has been maxed out due to having to cover our original vets bill. I have borrowed what I can to be able to get the answers & diagnosis we needed and to get her back to normal. At this stage, I have nothing left for the remaining bill and medication going forward until she is in remission and fully recovered.

I cannot bear the thought of seeing her in pain & not being her energetic bouncy self.

Any help you are able to offer big or small which will help towards the shortfall, would mean the world to me and my family. Nala is so precious and far too young to have endured the pain and trauma she's experienced so far.
