My name is NaKiyah, and I’m raising funds to pay my tuition so I can continue my college education in sociology. My journey to this point hasn’t been easy. At 18, I made the difficult decision to leave an abusive home, which left me homeless. I did this not only for myself, but also for my little sister, who deserves to see what stability and hope can look like. Despite these challenges, I’ve worked hard to secure a paid internship, but it only covers my basic needs like groceries, hygiene products, and transportation. It’s not enough to cover my tuition, and I don’t have family support to help with those costs. I chose sociology because my lived experiences have shown me the deep impact of poverty, abuse, and systemic inequality. I want to understand the “why” behind these struggles and use that knowledge to break cycles of hardship—not just for myself, but for others in my community. My dream is to go to law school and become a criminal defense attorney, advocating for justice and real change for people who often go unheard. The funds I raise will go directly toward my tuition. Without this support, I’ll be forced to withdraw from school, leaving me unhoused again and in debt without a degree.
