Help Najlaa and her brother get out of Gaza

Hello everybody, my name is Nicola, I live in Florence, Italy. I created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friend, Najlaa Hmeed.

I met Najlaa thanks to the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music. About three years ago, I listened to her beautiful voice for the first time and from that moment, a correspondence via social media was born and continues to this day. As Pope Benedict XVI wrote, music is a spiritual and universal language that can be transformed into prayer.

There are many stories that I could tell you, that connect me to Najlaa and that remind me how special person she is, but in this moment the most important thing is her story and her words.

Najlaa's letter to the world

After 200 days of war in Gaza, we have no description of the feeling inside us. We have lost everything. We have become young people with no life, no future, and no work. We don't have any shred of hope left to escape death and continue living, so this link is our only hope for building a future.

You outside the Gaza Strip: your support makes a very big difference in our lives.

In order to travel, the Egyptian government requires every Gazan to coordinate their passage through the crossing: about $ 5,000 per person. Added to this, the cost of living and education abroad, which we definitely couldn’t afford after losing everything.

I am Najlaa Hmeed, 21 years old, and I'm a medical student at University.

I am an oud player and singer at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music. This is my voice.

I have dreams and ambitions, and I have a long road that I have not yet walked. My educational career has stopped since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.

My university was destroyed, as it was targeted by more than one Israeli raid.

My hopes and future were destroyed with it, and now I have become a completely different young woman. I don’t know why all of this disappeared. Why we had to start over? Or when life will return to us?

Ahmed Hmeed, 24 years old, recently graduated from the College of Engineering in September 2023, hoping to get a job in the field of engineering and build his future: a job, a home, and a family.

It is like the dream of any young man in this world, but now he lives a death-like life in which the simplest necessities of life are lacking. He spends his day searching for water, food, electricity, and the internet, and he has no chance to regain his future after all the buildings in Gaza City have been destroyed.

Therefore, I am writing to you with a broken and very burnt heart: for all that we have lost in our rights to life, we do not want to lose more than that!

I hope for your support and help to restore our hope again. Every act of compassion and each instance of generosity in this trying time holds priceless significance. Your attention and backing for our future resonate deeply within our hearts.

Lettera di Najlaa al mondo

Dopo 200 giorni di guerra a Gaza non sappiamo descrivere il sentimento che proviamo dentro di noi. Abbiamo perso tutto. Siamo diventati giovani senza vita, senza futuro e senza lavoro. Non ci è rimasto alcun briciolo di speranza per sfuggire alla morte e continuare a vivere, quindi questo crowdfunding è la nostra unica speranza per costruire un futuro.

Tu fuori dalla Striscia di Gaza: il tuo sostegno fa una grande differenza nelle nostre vite.

Per viaggiare, il governo egiziano richiede che ogni abitante di Gaza coordini il proprio passaggio attraverso il valico: all'incirca 5.000 dollari a persona. A ciò si aggiunge il costo della vita e dell’istruzione all’estero, che sicuramente non possiamo permetterci dopo aver perso tutto.

Mi chiamo Najlaa Hmeed, ho 21 anni e sono una studentessa di medicina all'Università.

Sono una suonatrice di oud e cantante al Conservatorio Nazionale di Musica Edward Said. Questa è la mia voce.



Ho sogni e ambizioni e ho una lunga strada che non ho ancora percorso. La mia carriera formativa si è interrotta dall’inizio della guerra nella Striscia di Gaza.

La mia università è stata distrutta perché presa di mira da più di un raid israeliano.

Le mie speranze e il mio futuro sono stati distrutti con essa, e ora sono diventata una giovane donna completamente diversa. Non so perché tutto ciò sia scomparso. Perché abbiamo dovuto ricominciare da capo? E quando potremo ricominciare a vivere?

Ahmed Hmeed, 24 anni, si è recentemente laureato alla Facoltà di Ingegneria nel settembre del 2023, sperando di trovare un lavoro nel campo dell'ingegneria e così costruire il suo futuro: un lavoro, una casa e una famiglia.

È come il sogno di ogni giovane uomo in questo mondo, ma ora vive una vita simile alla morte in cui mancano le più semplici necessità della vita. Trascorre la giornata alla ricerca di acqua, cibo, elettricità e internet e non ha alcuna possibilità di riconquistare il suo futuro dopo che tutti gli edifici di Gaza City sono stati distrutti.

Pertanto, vi scrivo con il cuore spezzato e distrutto: dopo tutto ciò che abbiamo perso del nostro diritto alla vita, non vogliamo perdere più di questo!

Spero nel vostro sostegno e nel vostro aiuto per riaccendere nuovamente la nostra speranza. Ogni atto di empatia e ogni esempio di generosità in questo momento difficile ha un significato inestimabile per noi.
