Help Nai pay medical bills from her car accident
On Wednesday April 14th, I went to Indiana Dunes State Park by myself to go for some hikes and take some pictures. I got lost, and ended up 6 miles outside of the park, nearing sunset. A very nice officer found me and took me back to my car.
During the last 5-10 minutes of my hour drive home, I had to turn left at a busy two lane intersection that has lots of blind spots. A large SUV had just come into my view, but I should've had time to finish my turn as it was about turn red. He sped up to miss the yellow and hit me while I was turning. My car spun all the way around, all air bags deployed, my seatbelt broke on my chest, and I blacked out.
After all was said and done, I ended up with a broken hand, a fracture on my collarbone from the seatbelt, a fracture in my shin, vertebrae spacing my neck, and really, really, nasty bruising that has made it hard to sit up and walk around for long periods. I also have a pretty neat scar forming from the sunburn and seatbelt burn combination on my chest.
Unfortunately, despite being reassured by people at the scene that the accident was not my fault, the officer assigned me full blame for failure to yield in the accident. I do not have health insurance thanks to the ACA family glitch, and this means car insurance will not cover my ever growing hospital bill. We are responsible for all costs. My husband, Michael, is an assistant manager at Wings Etc, a local sports bar, and I stay at home with our 8 year old son as we don't have means for the additional costs that would come with me working. We cannot afford the 13.5k and growing bill, and do not have assets to sell or retirement funds to pull from. Bill money comes out of grocery money at this point. The only thing we owned worth money was the car that is now totaled.
Any donations will go straight to the medical debt, or to food if needed.
Here's the picture I took as I found my way out of the woods to the Lake Michigan shoreline as a treat for reading. :)
