Help Nahed’s family to secure food in Gaza and bring hope
Donation protected
Dear friends, we are running this campaign on behalf of our dear friend and colleague Nahed Sahmoud, whose family is facing unimaginable danger and suffering every single day in Gaza.
Her children, Hamoudi (16), Heba (18), Najwa (20) and Amira (23), and her elderly mother Hikmat (70) have been forcibly displaced multiple times and now live in tents, without access to food or water. Heba was admitted to the hospital three days ago and is diagnosed with severe malnutrition. She needs specific medicine and food to stay alive. Hamoudi collapsed after three days without food and has since collapsed three times. They are exhausted and losing all hope…
In Gaza, searching for food can take more than 12 hours, and means risking your life. Many people are shot, wounded, or die because they get trapped in the crowd. Hamoudi came back with a deep cut in his hand because somebody stole the little food he had managed to get in these conditions. For women, the risk to get hurt is even higher. They don’t have the energy anymore to keep trying.
The alternative is buying food at extremely high prices:
• A single bag of flour now costs up to €150.
• We estimate it costs €70–100 per person, per day to access food that’s safe and nutritious.
• Only cash is accepted when buying food, and 50% commission is charged in order to change money transferred to a bank account into cash.
It is a lot of money, but there is no safe alternative.
Your support will save lives
This campaign will provide:
• Urgent food aid for Nahed’s family and other single mothers raising children alone after losing their partners.
• Support to evacuate Nahed’s family from Gaza, as she seeks reunification from Cyprus, where she now lives as a refugee.
Nahed has been supporting her family day and night from the start. Even in darkness, she remains a light for them and others in the community, reminding us this campaign is not only about money but about solidarity and love. As she said:
“All people are suffering, and I don’t want people to suffer more. If people cannot donate, let's ask them to send the energy. A good wish, a prayer, send it in the air to reach us.”
Many of us feel helpless. But we are not. Your support matters. This campaign brings hope to the lives of Nahed’s family, and to other families.
You might remember when we supported Nahed’s son Aser (22) to flee Gaza after a suicide attempt, he told his mother that the huge support from people that he didn’t even know gave him the will to live again. He is now safe in Belgium, rebuilding his life.
When Najwa turned 20 and was depressed to celebrate it because she wasn’t sure if she would make it to 21, we sent her a video message and she said: “Mama, I feel like a queen.”
It’s the small things we do what gives people hope. This is a campaign of hope.
Please donate. Share. Send hope.
Help us show Nahed’s family - and others like hers - that they are not forgotten. In a world that often turns away, let’s choose to show up.
Thank you for standing with Nahed — and with every family still fighting to survive, rebuild, and live with hope.
Together, we did it, we’ve helped Nahed’s son, Aser, reach safety. Together, we can help the rest of her family survive. Let’s not stop now.
The pictures show Heba and Najwa, before the war. Amira and Hamoudi didn’t want pictures of them online, as they don’t look the way they used to anymore. The last picture is a picture of Nahed and Aser, when they met in Belgium.
Please note that GoFundMe automatically adds and additional donation to their platform on top of your chosen donation. Please be aware that this is optional; you can adjust this amount or enter 0% if you want to donate less or not at all.
