Hello, my name is Leah, and I'd like to share my story. For 22 years I lived in Nagpur (India), during which time I came face to face with the difficult realities endured by many women and girls. I met individuals who had suffered greatly—abused, neglected, abandoned and often ignored by society.
For countless women, illness and infirmity present insurmountable barriers. The prohibitive costs of medical treatment and ongoing care result in many of these women being discarded and left without support. Their vulnerability is exacerbated by the lack of affordable healthcare options, which leads to further exclusion and hardship.
For 25 years my Indian colleague Usha and I, supported by an incredible team, have rescued and rehabilitated thousands of women in need through our charity Women in Need (WIN). The charity's remit and outreach continue to grow. WIN has recently expanded across the border from Maharashtra into Madhya Pradesh, taking support to women and girls in remote villages.
Though 50% of WIN’s programmes are community based, the charity has operated from various rented spaces, which presents ongoing challenges in providing consistent and reliable services to our beneficiaries. To address these challenges, it is essential for WIN to establish a secure base in the form of a dedicated Women's Community Clinic. This clinic would focus on supporting the most needy and vulnerable individuals, offering a stable environment where their needs can be met without the uncertainties associated with temporary or rented facilities.
This clinic will serve as a confidential and compassionate space where women and girls can access essential health and support services without judgement.
Please help us build Women in Need's Community Clinic, £1 at a time.
Thank you x
