Hi, my name is Nadia, Owner of Crown of Glory Birth Services. I'm a trained birth and postpartum doula serving the Birmingham, Alabama and surrounding areas. In addition to be a doula I'm a placenta encapsulation specialist. I've supported 150+ families with trying to conceive (TTC), Pregnancy, Birth, Postpartum, and placenta encapsulation. With the work I've done in the past two years as a doula I've realized that I am now ready to walk into my God given call to Midwifery.
Some of the births I attend I've witnessed women get mistreated, ignored and belittled during labor and I want to be apart of filling that gap in the lack of midwives in my communities. Currently there aren't any black midwives practicing in my home state of Alabama. Black women and babies in the USA have the worse maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rates of any group in the country and studies have shown that having access to culturally conscious and respectful midwifery care is necessary to shifting that narrative. I believe having access to black midwives who provide culturally conscious and respectful midwifery care is key. "States that give midwives a greater role in patient care achieve better results on key measures of maternal and neonatal health ."
Your support will not only help me but, will contribute to the life-saving and life-supporting efforts for moms and babies here in Alabama.
The Midwifery Program I am attending is https://www.midwiferycollege.edu/
. It's a two year program that fulfills the requirements necessary to apply to become a Alabama-licensed midwife, a NARM Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). The amount I'm hoping to raise will cover the tuition, books, trainings, transportation, and supplies.
