Help Nabeel to Pay for Spring Tuition

Donation protected
Dec. 8 update:
Great news! Nabeel received notification that his application for in-state residency was accepted on time for the start of spring semester in January! We did not think this would be possible, but the system has worked in his favor! Our efforts have raised enough to pay for the cost of his in-state tuition! We are currently investigating another source of funding to help pay for the cost of his books. So we will close this fundraiser down for now, and re-open if that funding source does not come through. Thank you so much to the donors for your generosity and your care. He is excited, and plans to take 16 units, a full-time load!

In 2019, Nabeel fled his country of Pakistan due to religious persecution. Fearing for his life, he went to his parish priest for advice. With the help of a local bishop, he obtained an expedited visa to Panama.

After two years of unsuccessfully attempting to seek asylum in Panama, he made the dangerous trip to the United States to seek asylum here. Of the journey to the border, Nabeel says, “The last three months of the trek before I arrived in the US nearly broke my body and spirit.” Last February, he arrived in San Luis Obispo County, where he now lives with his sponsor.

With the help of a Go-Fund-Me fundraiser conducted in the fall, he is currently attending the fall semester as a part-time student at Cuesta College. He cannot participate as a full-time student because out-of-state tuition costs are prohibitive.

"It is my dream to study in the US and serve the people of my new homeland as a nurse. However, I do not qualify yet for in-state tuition. I do not want to waste any time! Spring semester starts in January. I am asking for your financial help with tuition and books. All the money collected will be used for the sole purpose of completing this next semester.
After one full year in California, I will qualify for permanent residency. And once I obtain my work permit, I can pay for school expenses at Cuesta College myself!"

"Thank you so much for making my dream possible for me."
