Aloha, my name is Kapua Makuakane. I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai'i...specifically Nāʻālehu. I'm raising funds for my parents and their home.

They suffered from Hurricane Lala, which brought devastating flooding to their home in the subdivision of Nāʻālehu. Approximately 10–30 inches of muddy floodwater swept through the house, garage, and yard, leaving behind extensive damage, contaminated materials, destroyed all belongings, and significant cleanup and rebuilding needs.

I want to be clear about the purpose of this GoFund Me: we are not asking friends, family members, or individuals experiencing their own financial challenges to donate. This page was created primarily as a way for businesses, nonprofit organizations, charitable foundations, disaster-relief programs, and other organizations seeking a direct way to assist a Hawaiʻi family affected by Hurricane Lala. Your assistance will help make their home safe, sanitary, and livable again.

Recovery expenses may include:

• Removing mud, debris, contaminated materials, damaged flooring

• Repairing damage to the house, garage, foundation, and drainage areas

• Replacing essential appliances, furniture, and household belongings destroyed by the flood

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible outpouring aloha from families, neighbors, businesses, and communities across the island for our small town. So many have donated food, supplies, resources, time, and much-needed support to families affected by Hurricane Lala. Watching the island come together to care for one another has been truly heartwarming. Every donation, message, prayer, helping hand, and act of kindness has reminded us of the strength and generosity of our Hawaiʻi community. It's heartwarming to watch as our island come together to help.
