Help Myrna Get the Care She Deserves

Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Alex Scheff, and today, I want to introduce you to a woman who means the world to me: my grandmother, Myrna Wilma Unbehend. At 84 years old, she is an endlessly giving, selfless women and deserves nothing but the best.
About a month ago, our lives took an unexpected turn. What we initially believed to be a stroke was later diagnosed as a severe UTI infection that had gone undetected for too long. My grandma was unable to speak or communicate, and the situation rapidly spiraled out of control. Given her history with bipolar disorder and psychosis, the hospital had to stop all her medications, leaving her scared, confused, and vulnerable.
After what seemed like a glimmer of hope, she was discharged to a nursing home. Unfortunately, the care she received there was far from what she deserved. My mother, who has been a pillar of strength through all of this, acted quickly to remove her from that environment when it became clear that the situation was only worsening. They weren't feeding her properly, she was neglected, and her condition deteriorated alarmingly fast.
Now back in the care of a more attentive hospital, Grandma Myrna is fighting to regain strength, but it has been a grueling journey. She suffers from severe bedsores, has trouble speaking, is bruised, confused, and unable to walk, move, eat, or drink on her own. Every day is a battle, and while we remain hopeful, we know she needs more than just hope—she needs real, consistent care.
This is where I humbly ask for your help. My parents are unaware that I am reaching out, but the reality is that we need to bring Grandma Myrna home and ensure she’s comfortable and safe. My father works constantly and travels frequently, and while I live far away, my mother would be left to care for Grandma alone. The cost of 24/7 in-home care is staggering, yet it’s what she desperately needs.
I don’t know how much time my grandmother has left with us, but I do know that every moment counts, and she deserves the best care we can provide. Medical bills are overwhelming, and the standard of elderly care in many hospitals is not what it should be.
Any contribution, whether it’s $1, $5, $10, or more, would mean the world to us. Prayers are also so welcome and even sharing this message with others could make a difference. We will keep you updated on her progress, so you can see how your generosity is making an impact.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting my sweet grandma in her time of need. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
With gratitude,
Alex Scheff
