Help Myrna Get Home
Donation protected
UPDATE: April 13,2025 thank everyone for your valuable support and help. Myrna has made the trip back home and now is in St Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. She is receiving excellent care during this very difficult time.
Hello my name is Elyssia and I am Myrna Hardy’s (Prell) eldest daughter. We have created this page to help my mom Myrna get back to Manitoba for Palliative care.
Myrna was unfortunately suddenly diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in January 2025. This has been devastating to her and her family. She was received wonderful care at Cancer Care Manitoba.
In March she received the worst news she could that her cancer had spread to far and treatment was no longer an option. She was given 6 months to live.
Myrna’s family lives in Saskatchewan and part of her Bucket list was to travel home to see her family. Unfortunately this past week while visiting her family she was having a hard time breathing and was diagnosed with a severe pneumonia, pulmonary embolism and progression of her cancer.
She was admitted to the Royal University Hospital where she is receiving high levels of oxygen and medical care. She is wanting to come home to Manitoba for palliative care but unfortunately due to being in Saskatchewan her transport back by ambulance is not covered by Manitoba Health. We have been told the care she receives in Saskatchewan is the same as she would get in Manitoba and therefore we are expected to pay out of pocket for her transport home. Due to the high oxygen and treatments she needs brining her home would have to be by ambulance.
Unfortunately because my mom loved her work and stayed as a casual employee for the government she had no benefits or medical coverage to help with this bill. She always loved working as a support worker for those with disabilities or needing help so she stayed on as a casual.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help Myrna with the cost of transportation by ambulance and costs while in hospital to come back to Manitoba for her palliative care near her children.
Thank you for listening to her story and any help goes a long way.
