Help Mya Overcome Homelessness and Continue Education

My name is Mya, and I’m a biology major in the honors program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, maintaining a 3.4 GPA. Growing up, I always felt small, judged, and like my feelings never mattered to my family members. It took a lot of abuse physically, mentally, & emotionally for me to finally make the decision to go to college and pursue something with my life. This led me to leave another state to go to school, hoping to get away from the toxicity and abuse I experienced at home. However, every break (Summer & Winter) I have no choice but to continue to go back to my old home environment where the toxicity ensued. Unfortunately, recently, I was forced to leave my home due to neglect, toxicity, and homophobia from supposed family members. As a Black Bisexual Cis-Woman of the LGBTQ community, standing up for myself and my niece has led to me being kicked out, and since then, I’ve faced homelessness, depression, and financial hardship. I’ve had to move from place to place, which has made it difficult to find stable work and focus on my education.

One of my biggest challenges right now is paying off my tuition, as I am not receiving any assistance from my family. I urgently need help with housing, food, school supplies, and especially tuition so I can continue my studies without interruption. The uncertainty of my situation has been overwhelming, but I’m determined to keep going. My dream is to become a pediatric nurse and give back to my community, especially to young people who need shelter, food, and guidance. I want to use my experiences to help others who are struggling, just as I am now. Especially Black Queer Youth.
