Help Mya Heal

On December 18th, my world was turned upside down. My sweet girl, Mya, who is only almost 3 years old and has always been full of life, was hit by a car while I was taking her outside. In a split second, everything changed.

She suffered a severe injury to her front right leg that left it completely mangled. We rushed her to the emergency vet, where I was told the only way to save her life was a full amputation. After one of the longest 24 hours of my life, I was finally able to bring her home. Since then, we’ve been navigating pain medications, healing, and helping her learn how to move again on three legs.

Unfortunately, our journey isn’t over yet. We recently learned that an infection has developed under a flap of skin, and the tissue has begun to die. Mya now needs another surgery on January 2nd to remove the infected tissue so the wound can heal properly from the inside out. After that, she will need bandage changes twice a week for at least eight weeks.

The financial burden has become overwhelming. The first surgery alone was $2,300. The upcoming surgery will be $1,000, and the ongoing bandage changes will be $60–$100 per visit. Not including other visits for check ups. I am currently paying my way through school, and while the veterinary staff has been incredibly compassionate and helped where they can, the costs continue to add up. Unfortunately, the neighbor involved has declined to help cover any of the expenses.

Mya is my best friend. She has been there for me through some of the hardest moments of my life, and I cannot imagine giving up on her now. She still has so much life, love, and joy ahead of her.
