Help my wife, Monalisa, beat cancer!

Hello family and friends.. for those of you who don’t know me my name is David Hurlbut and I’m raising money to help my wife defeat breast cancer. I met my wife, Monalisa, shortly after I moved to Colorado seven years ago. We married in November of 2015 when I also became step father to her two children. Monet, her nickname, is a truly beautiful person and we need your support. She is a loving mother, amazing wife and about the best friend a person can have. (Of course I’m a little biased) She’s an Indiana girl who lives to help others. For most of her adult life she has worked for non-profits such as Firefly Autism and Nurse Family Partnership. She truly puts the needs of others before her own. She is very proud of her Filipino heritage as I can personally testify to with regard to her wonderful cooking of traditional Filipino dishes. Unfortunately Monet lost her parents many years ago and won’t be by her side during this battle. We know they are with her in spirit, watching over her and cheering her on.

 

This past year and a half has been very difficult for us. Due to the pandemic we lost several jobs each and nearly lost our home. Through hard work and a little good luck we’ve managed to keep our house. Two months ago Monet felt a hard lump in her chest and a month ago our worst fears were confirmed. She has Triple Positive Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. She will need to undergo roughly a year’s worth of chemotherapy which will include the drugs, Docetaxel, Carboplatin, Trastuzumab and Pertusumab. After this comes surgery to remove the lump, radiation and finally medication for ten years. She has already had the chemotherapy port placed in her upper chest which will stay in place for the duration of the chemo treatment. If needed, it can also be used for delivering fluids, transfusions, drawing blood for lab tests or injecting dye for CT scans.

 

We are in great need of financial assistance to fight this disease. The cost of the medical bills will be tremendous. Not too mention the time off from work each of us will have to take during treatments. The Covid pandemic set us back ten years. I’m not writing this to garner pity but rather to share with you our situation. Monet and I are fighters. We might have a down day here and there but we are not complainers. We know we are blessed. Our Faith during this time has helped us to endure and I believe it’s in times like these when you turn to your family and friends for help. Monet and I are continuing to work as much as possible. We both work several odds jobs as I continue to rebuild my sports radio talk show in Denver as well as my real estate business. Many family members and friends have already offered to come and visit to both help us and to serve as a distraction.

 

Our situation is urgent and we are most grateful for any donation. My goal is to get this message in front of 10,000 people. I’m going to reach out to just about anyone I’ve ever known. Please feel free to pass this along to your family and friends who might want to help a truly beautiful person. Put it on your Twitter accounts, Facebook, etc.. Forward it to co-workers. We are in need of help and I’m checking my pride at the door and asking for it. Again, we are truly grateful for any donation, no matter how large or small.

 

I know in many cases someone outside the family would run the Go Fund Me and fundraising campaign. I thought of this, however, no one will fight as passionately and as urgently as I will to help save my wife’s life. The outlook is very positive and with your help we can beat this.

 

Lastly, if anyone has any suggestions on where to find any funding, grants, etc., which could be used for medical bills, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m all ears.
