Over 20 years ago I began to work with children in a baby orphanage and a street kid shelter in Vietnam. I could never seem to walk away because they brought more to my life than I could ever bring to theirs.

Those kids are now grown up. They are strong, resilient young adults who have built lives for themselves despite tough beginnings.

In the last week, devastating floods and landslides have hit their communities in Central Vietnam. Unfortunartely the weather is not giving them much of a break. Many have lost homes and belongings, can’t get to work, and some are stranded in isolated mountain areas. Many of them have had their motorbikes damaged or washed away, and these are essential for work and daily life.

To make things worse, Typhoon Kalmaegi is on its way aimed directly at them. They are bracing themselves for the worst yet to come.

I’m raising funds to help them repair or replace motorbikes, buy food and essential items such as lights and candles to get through this difficult time until life starts to recover. These are the worst floods on record for areas such as Hoi An and Tam Ky. I have lived in both of these areas and know how tough things are already.

These young people have already overcome so much. With a little help, they can get back on their feet and keep moving forward.

Every donation, even the smallest of donations make a difference - and reminds them they’re not alone. Even if you could spare $5 it would mean so much - every single bit counts.

I will be passing the donations directly to Mrs Hanh who I personally know, she will distribute the funds to those affected by the weather events.
