Help My Uncle Jason Get His Surgery

Hello,

My name is Jocelyn, and I am trying to raise funds for my Uncle Jason to get him the much-needed back surgery he has been waiting for. Anyone that knows my uncle knows that he would help anyone that asked him to. He is a loving father and husband that has always put his family first.

My Uncle has been off work for the past two and half years waiting for back surgery to address the herniated disc in the lower back (L2-3) and a bone spur that has developed in L5-S1 area. Both are pressing on nerves and causing pain and discomfort each day. Some days, he is unable to get out of bed because the pain is to extreme. It has been a very physically and mentally draining experience with the pain he has daily (he says he does not remember what its like not to have some sort of pain each day). He is unable to sit for extended periods of time or walk for long periods.

Unfortunately, his long-term disability income only covers the basics, and my aunt is working two jobs to help alleviate some of the financial burden they are going through. I have two cousins, one of whom is neurodiverse and has complex needs that requires a lot of care and time. My aunt was the primary care giver and now my uncle is trying to manage my cousin’s care while going through all of this.

Currently BC does not allow any type of private surgery for what is needed to address the above issues. Last year my uncle saw a surgeon here but was told that there is a two to three year wait period to have surgery done here in BC. He has exhausted all the other possible surgeons in the lower mainland and have been told either that they are not taking on new patients or their wait times are the same if not longer. He currently has no timeline when the possible surgery will be other then being on a wait list.

Right now, the only option is to see a Surgeon in Calgary (where the wait times are minimal) and have my uncle get the surgery he needs to that he can again live a normal life and return to work. Unfortunately, the insurance company will not pay for surgery, and it will be up to him to come up with the funds to have the surgery.

I understand that right now for a lot of people, these are challenging times. Any form of support, whether it be financial or sharing his story would be greatly appreciated. I thank you for standing by him during this time of need.
