I'm Esmeralda C. Asi, niece of Alfredo S. Layag who has been hospitalized since April 1, 2021 and tested positive for COVID-19.  I was born without seeing my father because he died when I was an infant.  My uncle "Fred" is like a father to me and we are so sad to learn that he is in the hospital suffering with the virus and pneumonia.

He was admitted to the sixth hospital that they've been because almost all the hospitals in Metro Manila, Philippines are full of COVID-19 patients.  He was immediately intubated once admitted in the emergency room (ER) that day because his oxygen level was only 45 causing his difficulty in breathing.

He was in the emergency room (ER) for ten days because the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is full.  The charges in the ER are higher than the ordinary room, therefore his medical bills are tremendously increasing every single hour. The doctors recommended for him to stay in the hospital for 15 days due to his unstable condition.

On April 11, he was transferred to the ICU but we have no assurance yet of his discharge date. As of now, the medical bills have already reached PHP 1,800,000 (Philippine Peso) or equivalent to $37,000 (USD).

We hope that he can fight and fully recover from his condition. We are knocking on your kind hearts to help us in the medical costs of my uncle "Fred".  Any amount will go a long way in funding his medical costs.
