I’m reaching out to ask for help for my dog, Anouk.

I’ve had Anouk since she was a tiny puppy, and she’s been my constant companion ever since. She isn’t just a pet to me - she’s my only family here in Ottawa. She’s been by my side through everything.

About a year ago, Anouk had a mammary tumour removed. We thought we were past it, but unfortunately, two new tumours have since come back.

To give her the best chance at a long, cancer-free life, veterinary oncologist Dr. Liptak, who is a leading expert in canine oncology, recommended a bilateral mastectomy. It’s a big surgery, but it’s the best option to prevent the cancer from progressing.

The quoted cost is between $8,200 and $11,300.

I know some people might wonder why I need help. Anouk has had pet insurance since she was a puppy and has been healthy her whole life. But due to the premiums increasing significantly over time, I made the decision to switch to a more affordable provider - and they’ve now told me this surgery won’t be covered.

I work full-time and also have a part-time job, but I simply can’t come up with this amount within the next few weeks, which is when Anouk needs the surgery. Waiting months to save isn’t really an option.

I just want to give her the chance to live a long, healthy life - something she deserves.
