Hi! My name is Carmelina Frasca and I’m a Social Studies teacher at Castro Valley High School.

I’ve been taking students on a week-long study trip to Washington, DC for many years. I think it’s one of the best opportunities I provide for students.

I’m reaching out and asking for help for two reasons. There are several students who want to attend and would benefit greatly but are in serious financial need and can’t afford the experience. Additionally, the cost of the trip exceeds what I’ve charged each student (airfare is far more than I had expected) and I need to raise funds to cover the difference. 

These kids have missed out on so much over the course of their time in high school. I’m dedicated to making this trip a highlight every year, but that’s even more important this year.

This trip isn’t just about seeing the sights and museums (though of course we will do those things)… they participate in the Close Up Foundation’s program for six of the eight days of the trip. The program brings together students from all over the country so they can discuss current issues, participate in debates, meet with government leaders, and do so much more. (Close Up is non-profit and non-partisan.)

After the last trip, in February of 2020, a student gave me a thank you card that included the message, “This trip changed my life.” Please help me give that opportunity to students this year.
