My son’s journey to college has been anything but easy. When Covid hit during his high school years, he was suddenly thrust into remote learning. There were times I worried he might not graduate, but he persevered and made it through. After graduation, he moved to San Diego and enrolled in community college to improve his grades and keep his dream alive. Just last week, he received an email that he was accepted to UC San Diego out of over 168,000 applicants—a huge accomplishment that made us so proud. He wants to pursue Global Health with a major in Physical Therapy, a path that’s especially meaningful to him because he hopes to find ways to help his grandmother.

Unfortunately, he recently faced an unexpected setback: his car broke down completely, and since he relies on it for classes and work, he had to purchase another vehicle. This urgent expense used up the money he had set aside for his upcoming semester’s tuition and books. Now, he’s in a difficult position—determined to continue his education, but facing a financial burden that’s overwhelming.
