My son is a brilliant young man who has faced an unexpected and heartbreaking challenge. He was prescribed Suboxone, a medication that, at the time, doctors were not warned by the FDA could cause severe dental issues. Over the past few years, his teeth have deteriorated rapidly, breaking like chalk and leaving him in constant pain and embarrassment. He now lowers his head in public, avoids social situations, and has become almost a recluse. Despite his intelligence and college education, he delivers for Door Dash to make ends meet, but it’s not enough to afford dental insurance or the care he desperately needs.

Yesterday, he visited The Smile Mission in Bonita Springs, Florida, where they offer dental work at a lower cost. He was told he needs to replace all his top and bottom teeth with 4 on dentures. The severity of his dental issues has caused him to lose 40 pounds and his doctor has warned that his health could be at serious risk if this isn’t addressed soon. He also has a little boy in elementary school, and I worry that his son feels embarrassed by his dad’s smile. I truly believe that with a new smile, my son’s self-confidence will return, he’ll be able to eat properly again, and it will open doors to better job opportunities.
