At just 26 years old, Jeremiah is fighting for the chance to see the world clearly again.
My name is Laura, and I am Jeremiah’s mother. Sharing our story is not easy, but I believe deeply in the kindness and compassion of others.
Before his 21st birthday, Jeremiah experienced unimaginable loss. During the COVID lockdowns, he lost loved ones including his best friend. The grief and trauma he carried during that time profoundly impacted his mental health.
What we first believed was complicated grief slowly revealed itself to be treatment-resistant schizophrenia with predominant negative symptoms a lifelong condition that has changed the course of his young life.
Despite this diagnosis, Jeremiah is not defined by it. He continues to show quiet strength each day. He is supported by a dedicated medical team, and surrounded by the love of his parents, siblings, extended family, and close friends. We stand beside him every step of the way.
A New and Urgent Challenge
Over the past four years, during episodes of psychosis and severe distress, Jeremiah unintentionally caused significant damage to the corneal layers of his eyes through constant rubbing.
Today, he is living with serious and worsening vision impairment.
Without urgent surgical intervention, the damage may become permanent.
Jeremiah now requires corneal graft (corneal transplant) surgery to restore his eyesight and prevent further deterioration.
⸻
The Surgery Involves
This is a complex procedure requiring:
• Specialist ophthalmic surgeons
• Donor corneal graft tissue
• Anaesthesia
• Hospital admission and monitoring
• Possible additional specialists during surgery
• Ongoing post-operative treatment
• Long-term follow-up care to ensure the graft heals successfully
⸻
Our Fundraising Goal: $17,000
We are seeking to raise $17,000 to cover:
• Corneal transplant surgery
• Hospital and anaesthesia fees
• Donor graft costs
• Specialist consultations
• Post-operative medications
• Follow-up appointments and ongoing monitoring
The financial burden is significant. Between surgical fees, hospital expenses, specialist care, and months of recovery treatment, the costs quickly add up.
As a family, we are doing everything we can — but we cannot do this alone.

Sam Laura & Family
