This is not something I ever imagined myself doing. I’m not the type of person who asks for help, especially out of fear of being judged. But today, I’m here because this is urgent, and it’s for my son.

On 11/20/2025, my 6-year-old son was diagnosed with retinal detachment in his left eye. What started as a routine eye exam quickly turned our world upside down. Because there are no retina specialists in El Paso, we had to travel to Houston to see one and to rule out something even more frightening — cancer. Thankfully, he does not have cancer, and for that we are beyond grateful.

However, he urgently needs surgery to repair the detachment and save the vision in his left eye. If this surgery is not done soon, he could lose vision in that eye permanently. Hearing those words as a parent is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Although he does have BCBS insurance, it is not covering the full cost. We are being faced with overwhelming costs in medical expenses, and this would be the first of three surgeries he will need. Being told your child needs immediate surgery, while also being told how much it will cost, is overwhelming in ways I can’t even put into words.

We have faith, and we believe that little by little we can reach this goal. If you’re unable to donate, sharing his story helps just as much. No soy una persona que normalmente haga esto. Nunca me ha gustado pedir ayuda, y mucho menos por miedo a ser juzgada. Pero hoy estoy aquí porque la situación es urgente, y es por mi hijo.

El 11/20/2025, mi hijo de 6 años fue diagnosticado con desprendimiento de retina en su ojo izquierdo. Lo que comenzó como un examen de rutina terminó cambiando nuestras vidas por completo. Debido a que en El Paso no hay especialistas en retina, tuvimos que viajar hasta Houston para que lo evaluara un especialista y descartar algo aún más aterrador: cáncer. Gracias a Dios, no tiene cáncer, y por eso estamos profundamente agradecidos.

Sin embargo, él necesita una cirugía urgente para reparar el desprendimiento y poder salvar la visión de su ojo izquierdo. Si esta cirugía no se realiza pronto, podría perder la visión de ese ojo de manera permanente. Escuchar esto como mamá es algo que no se lo deseo a nadie.

Aunque cuenta con seguro médico BCBS, este no cubre el 100% de los gastos. Nos estamos enfrentando costos abeumadores en gastos médicos, y esta sería la primera de tres cirugías que necesitará. Que te digan que tu hijo necesita una cirugía urgente y, al mismo tiempo, que no sabes cómo pagarla, es algo verdaderamente abrumador.

Tenemos fe y creemos que poco a poco podremos alcanzar esta meta. Si no pueden donar, compartir su historia también nos ayuda muchísimo.
