My son Kyle's apartment building in NYC was heavily damaged by a fire in the unit directly below his. He was forced to leave his home without warning and now needs to find new housing and replace many of his belongings. While his apartment did not burn, the emergency response team caused significant damage through his apartment breaking down many walls, destroying furniture and personal belongings, and all of the windows were shattered, leaving the apartment unlivable.
He also has two cats names Otis and Rufus who were in the apartment at the time. Thankfully, they both survived. However all of their pet supplies, including food, litter, bowls, and toys, were destroyed and need to be replaced.
This situation has taken a serious emotional toll on my son. He was awoken in the middle of the night to his building being on fire, with very little time to react, causing immense amounts of emotional distress. Being forced out so suddenly, while fearing for his pets’ safety, and facing so much uncertainty has caused significant stress and anxiety. He is now navigating the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding his life while dealing with the instability of not having a permanent place to live.
He has lived in NYC for 12 years and has built a life and community here in Hells Kitchen. Now he is facing unexpected costs including desperately trying to secure a new apartment, immediately moving, and replacing any essential items. ANY support, whether through a donation, or by sharing this page, would mean a great deal as he works to regain stability!! We love you, Kyle!
