Dear friends, empathetic souls and supporters,
My son Nikhil who is only 32 years old, has been suffering from the debilitating disease of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), since 2021 and I am reaching out to you all as a mother in desperate need of all your support. MS is a condition where the white blood cells attack the nerves, effecting the messages from the brain to the rest of the body, leading to a host of issues.
My son has been continually getting worse from this disease. He was diagnosed in 2021 but had symptoms of MS years before. Unfortunately the disease was picked up late for Nikhil as MS is very hard to detect at the first instance. Symptoms he has include, constant headaches, depression, incontinence, fatigue, balance and coordination. I am extremely concerned his symptoms are getting worse and he will end up in a wheelchair, I can't see this happen.
He has been getting treatment from the NHS with various disease modifying suppressant steroids however this is not working hence I have had to look at other means to improve my sons life. Upon extensive research I have come to the conclusion that HSCT (haematopoietic stem cell transplantation) is the best treatment for Nikhil. This is an intense chemotherapy treatment for MS. It aims to 'reset' the immune system by wiping it out and then regrowing it, using your stem cells. Unfortunately, Nikhil does not qualify for Stem Cell Therapy through the NHS, as the criteria is very strict. I do not want to wait before he is in a wheelchair to be deemed suitable for treatment.
This treatment is available privately in Mexico. Both me and Nikhil have been in touch with the Doctor and the results from other patients have also been very positive. The cost of this life changing treatment for Nikhil is £55,000. This includes full cost of treatment for a month. That is the total treatment time for Stem Cell therapy (HSCT). This is for private Doctors and Nurses, medication, his stay and flights to and from Mexico.
To add to this, Nikhil lives all alone with only his dog Hugo who is everything to Nikhil. He lives away from me. I have tried to convince him to relocate with me however Nikhil is such that he does not want to be a burden to me even though I know he is going through a
struggle every single day all alone. Even though my son is a strong willed young man, he has broken down in front of me numerous times as his life is now not the same and it breaks my heart also. Any medical reports including scans, needed are available upon request.
Your support and I mean any support would be lifechanging to Nikhil withstanding the amount it all adds up. Time is of the essence for my son, please help him beat this disease.
