On Friday, Jan 16th at 8 AM, my 15-year-old son was run over by a car on his way to school. He was riding his e-scooter on the sidewalk. As he was coming up to a subdivision crossing, a car was pulling out. He tried to stop but couldn't. The driver was looking left and began pulling forward. It's not clear what happened at this point, but he ended up under the front of the car and was run over. The driver never saw him. He was rushed to the hospital.
He has multiple facial fractures: nose, jaw on both sides, palate of mouth split in half, both orbital sockets, and teeth missing. They did surgery to repair some of the damage. He will have more surgeries in the future, including oral surgery to repair his teeth.
Since this was a freak accident and no one's fault, the person that ran over him did not have full coverage insurance, only basic. This means the insurance money for my son's medical and dental bills is not there. We don't want to hurt anyone's way of living. We had health insurance up until January 1st. Due to circumstances, the new insurance policy doesn't kick in until February 1st. So we are between policies. We are struggling with his current and upcoming medical, dental, and trauma therapy bills.
