Hey everyone my name is Yazmine and I am the mother and caregiver to my son Siah, everyday I watch my beautiful son fight battles no child should ever have to face. He was born with a medical negligent injury called HIE, and since then, our lives have been a whirlwind of hospital rooms, emergency alarms, and sleepless nights. He has quadriplegic spasticity (cerebral palsy), epilepsy, and optic atrophy. When he was just nine months old, he lost the ability to eat by mouth. I remember the heartbreak of seeing him choke and struggle, and the fear that came with every hospital stay. He now relies on a feeding tube, and his tiny body is hooked up to machines most of the day.

Recently, a simple cold turned into a nightmare. My son went into status epilepticus and had to be placed in a medically induced coma to stop the relentless seizures. After being intubated, he developed pneumonia and now faces tracheomalacia. He needs a nebulizer and takes six different medications, four just for his seizures. We spent over a month in the hospital, and during that time, I couldn’t work. The only income we have is from a state agency, which allows me to care for him full-time. The down fall of that is you may not claim your caregiving time if you are not essentially the caregiver. Hospital stays, no matter what you do in the hospital to care for your baby. It does not count as payable time, no matter how long the stay is.

Now, we are now facing homelessness. We sleep in our car, trying to keep him safe and comfortable, but it’s not enough. My heart aches knowing he deserves so much more—a stable home, a safe place to heal, and the chance to just be a child. We have no family support, and the weight of this journey is overwhelming. I am reaching out because I have nowhere else to turn. Your kindness could help us find a home sooner and give my son the stability he desperately needs faster than me and his father can on our own. Any support, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. We lived in the San Diego region, but due to lack of support, we the family are considering moving out of state , but need to be in a area close enough to any top of the line children’s hospitals. It would be so helpful if we were able to raise enough money to care for our child’s medical needs during time of transition from one state to the next.
