Help my son get a good education
Donation protected
My son Devlin had to leave 4th grade due to violence in a San Francisco public school that the administration was unable to protect him from for over 6 months. While recovering from a concussion received at school, he told me that returning to school made him want to die, so we started homeschooling. This was a wonderful experience, but when COVID hit, most of the amazing educational resources in our sweet city closed down. At the same time, Devlin's needs for exposure to a larger world grew. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2020 and it became very clear that it was important for him to go back to group learning.
We found a private school that is a perfect fit for Devlin, providing him a safe, comfortable, and exciting learning environment. However, private schools, because public will never be safe for us again, usually cost around $55,000.00 EACH year!
As the founder and director of a public benefit nonprofit, I have spent my life in public service instead of seeking personal financial gain. I am now finding myself in a position of having to ask my community to help make it possible for Devlin to have a good education. Because my family survives on meager funds, we were eligible for scholarships and grants, but we still need to come up with $18,000.00 each school year. This is a lot for a family surviving on about $20,000/year. So I am asking for your help.
Devlin is a very bright, compassionate, caring, creative and complex person who deserves a chance at a good education. If you agree and are able, would you be willing to help make this happen by donating towards his tuition?
You can make a contribution 3 different ways:
1. via this GoFundMe right now,
2. directly to Devlin's CalABLE education account at: COMING SOON
3. via Ven mo at Lila Travis @hungrysquirrels
Thank you so much for your time and your love of my family and my work. Sorry to have to ask for help with this, but it does takes a village.
