Hey my name is Shirley Cavett. I never thought I would be in a position where I have to ask for help like this… but as a mother, I will do anything for my child. A day that was meant to celebrate life turned into a heartbreaking tragedy. My son lost one of his best friends — someone he was supposed to graduate with next month — and in that same moment, his life changed forever when he was falsely accused of the very loss he’s grieving. As a mother, I cannot put into words the pain of watching my child go through this — mourning his best friend while also fighting to prove his innocence. My son lost his best friend to gun violence, and my heart goes out to Justin’s family and friends. I am truly sorry for your loss. My son is a good kid — kind, respectful, and full of potential — and now he’s facing something he didn’t do. Watching him go through this while I’m already battling a serious heart condition is breaking me in ways I can’t even explain. He has been my strength, my support, my everything… he is all I have. I don’t have the strength or the finances to fight this alone, but I refuse to give up on him. As his mother, I will stand for him the way he has always stood for me. We are fighting for truth.
