Hello,
My name is Jay-cee, a Mother of an 8th grader who is ready to explore the world and embrace new opportunities. Last month in January we have received some wonderful news that my son Darrius has been nominated to participate in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Honor of his Academic Achievement where he will be traveling to take on the first step on a path to success in High School, College, and future careers, interactive workshops, group simulations, and historical site visits that will help him develop key skills he needs to become an effective leader. Taking on challenges and creating positive change at school and in the community, just as Americans have done throughout history. Learning and achieving success has always been his number one goal and he is beyond excited! I am so proud of the young man he is becoming. Now, he has the chance to attend JrNYLC, an incredible educational program that brings together middle school students from across the country for the experience of a lifetime. Through the Voices of Change project, he will gain new skills and inspiration as a young leader of the future, all while getting a taste of life on a college campus.
During this journey, he will travel to Washington D.C. to learn about leadership at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and historic sites like George Washington's Mount Vernon. In Boston, he will walk the Freedom Trail and discover the stories of past and present leaders. In Atlanta, he will be immersed in the rich history of the civil rights movement, visiting places like the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Finally, in San Francisco, he will explore innovation and teamwork at the California Academy of Sciences and experience the wonders of the city.
As his mother, watching him grow up to be this amazing, bright and intelligent young man has made me the happiest and most proud parent. He has shown his true colors throughout the years, excelling in school and inspiring everyone around him. I want to make his dream come true, but as a single parent, I need some help to make this possible. I am reaching out to friends, family, and anyone who believes in supporting the next generation of leaders. Your financial support will help cover his meals, lodging, and other necessities for this trip. My son is going places, and I am beyond excited for him and his future! He is hoping to raise enough funds before this Summer. Thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement.
