Help Me Save My Vision – I'm Walla from Sudan
Hello,
My name is Walla Hussein Issa, and I’m an English teacher from Omdurman, Sudan. I’ve been teaching since 2013, and I love my work—but right now, I’m facing the painful possibility of losing my eyesight.
In 2021, after a regular school day, I suddenly lost my vision. I went to the eye doctor and was diagnosed with a detached retina (DR). I had emergency surgery, and silicone oil was placed in my eye to help restore my sight.
Thanks to that surgery, I was able to return to work and keep following up with my doctor.
In March 2023, my doctor told me I needed a second operation to replace the silicone oil. But then the war started in Khartoum, and everything changed.
For 8 months, I couldn’t reach my doctor or access treatment.
When the network came back in Omdurman, my family and I traveled for two days to reach the doctor in another state. We slept in the street next to a bus station, because we couldn’t afford a hotel or safe accommodation. When I finally saw the doctor, he said I now urgently need:
A new surgery on my right eye (another detached retina)
A silicone oil replacement in my left eye
But we had no choice but to go back home—the costs were simply too much, and it was unsafe to stay.
Why I Need Your Help
My two brothers, one of them based in Germany, are helping me as much as they can. But the total cost is more than we can afford alone.
Your support will help me:
Get both necessary eye surgeries
Cover safe travel and accommodation in Port Sudan
Afford medication and post-surgery care
I’m asking with all my heart:
Please help me save my eyesight and continue my life and work as a teacher.
Even the smallest donation means so much.
And if you can’t donate, please share my story.
With hope and gratitude,
Walla Hussein Issa
