Supporting My Little Sister’s Fight to Walk Without Pain
Hi, my name is Cheynne. I’m 18 years old and just starting college, something my family and I have worked incredibly hard for. I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but right now my family is facing a situation that’s bigger than what we can manage alone.
My little sister is only 13 years old and needs a total hip replacement.
Last year, during a regular gym class, she was hit hard enough to fracture the neck of her hip bone. She underwent surgery where three screws were placed to stabilize the fracture. At first, everything seemed to be healing well , until we got back from moving me into college and we learned that the injury had affected the blood supply to her hip.
Despite everyone’s best efforts, part of the head of her hip bone began to collapse. She had to undergo another surgery in October to remove the screws in hopes of preserving the joint. Unfortunately, even after that procedure, the ball of her hip continued to collapse completely. At this point, a total hip replacement is no longer optional, it’s the only way for her to live without constant pain and regain mobility.
My parents are the hardest-working people I know. They have never asked for help and would never want to burden anyone. But this situation is beyond anyone’s control. Between major surgery ( this will be her 3rd one on this same hip), recovery, physical therapy, and frequent trips to Seattle for specialist appointments, the costs are adding up quickly, not just financially, but emotionally and physically as well.
My parents will need to take significant time off work to care for my sister, get her to appointments, and support her through recovery. As her older sister, watching her go through this while trying to step into adulthood myself has been heartbreaking.
We are asking for help something that doesn’t come easily because right now, we need it.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will go toward:
Medical and surgical expenses
Travel to and from Seattle for appointments
Physical therapy and recovery support
Lost wages while my parents care for my sister
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page or keeping my sister in your thoughts means just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting my family during one of the hardest chapters of our lives.
With gratitude,
Cheyenne
