Hello, my name is Adam, and I’m reaching out to ask for your support in helping my sister, Shawna, as she faces a life-changing surgery. Our family, on the paternal side, has a genetic mutation called CDH1. This gene causes very aggressive stomach cancer. But not just any stomach cancer… it’s a hereditary diffused gastric cancer that has no mercy. After years of clinical studies to monitor this, Shawna has been advised by her doctors to undergo a total gastrectomy, a procedure where her entire stomach will be removed to prevent further health complications. She will be one of many cousins to do this procedure. While this surgery is necessary for the longevity of her life, the road ahead will be physically, emotionally, and financially challenging. The procedure comes with significant costs, including medical bills, surgery fees, post-operative care, and ongoing treatments. As her brother, I am trying to alleviate the financial burden so that she can focus on her recovery and regain her strength.
What is a Total Gastrectomy?
A total gastrectomy is a serious and complex surgery that involves removing my sister’s entire stomach and reconfiguring her digestive system. While it is essential to saving her life, it will require a long recovery period, adjustments to her diet, and ongoing medical care. This process will not only be difficult for her physically but will also require a great deal of support from her loved ones.
Why We Need Your Help:
Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery, hospitalization, and follow-up care is overwhelming, and insurance does not cover all of these expenses. I am creating this fundraiser to raise $5,000 to help with:
• Surgery and hospital stay
• Post-operative treatments and medications
• Nutritional support and specialized diet plans
• Ongoing follow-up appointments and care
• Transportation and lodging (if needed for medical appointments)
How You Can Help:
1 Donate: Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a huge difference and help ease the financial burden on my sister and our family.
2 Share: Please share this page with your network, friends, and family to help spread the word. The more people who know, the more help we can get.
3 Words of Encouragement: If you’re unable to donate, a simple message of love and encouragement will mean the world to my sister during this tough time.
My sister is strong, but she can’t do this alone. Your generosity and support will help her focus on healing and recovery, without having to worry about the financial burden. We are deeply grateful for every donation and every share.
Thank you so much for your kindness, prayers, and support.
With heartfelt gratitude,
-Adam DuBoisMcClure
