Hello, I’m Maria Fernanda, I’m a Venezuelan living in The Netherlands. I’m reaching out on behalf of my little sister, Maria Gabriela (aka. Gaby). She lives in Venezuela. Last July, Gaby was involved in a motorbike accident, she was on the back of the seat behind the driver when lost control of the bike, she got ejected falling on the pavement. Among the injuries she fractured her left femur.

At the time, her femur injury was deemed not to require surgery, but her recovery has been painfully slow. Over the past months, Gaby’s pain worsened and her mobility declined. A second opinion revealed that the initial treatment was a malpractice: she needed surgery back then. After multiple examinations and doctors consultations, has now led to the realization that only a hip replacement can restore her mobility and relieve her pain as now, she faces stage IV necrosis of the bone.

As a family, we simply do not have the financial means to cover an $18,880 surgery—especially given the economic challenges in Venezuela.

• Severe osteoarthritis due to Grade IV avascular necrosis of the left hip, with 2 cm limb shortening

• Subluxation of the left hip

Hola, soy Maria Fernanda, una venezolana viviendo en los Países Bajos. Estoy haciendo esta campaña en nombre de mi hermana menor, Maria Gabriela (aka. Gaby), quien vive en Venezuela. En julio del año pasado, Gaby tuvo un accidente en moto. Iba como copiloto, sentada detrás del conductor, cuando perdió el control del vehículo y Gaby salió eyectada, cayendo sobre el pavimento. Entre las lesiones sufridas, se fracturó el fémur izquierdo.

En ese momento, el médico determinó que no era necesaria una cirugía para el fémur, pero su recuperación ha sido dolorosamente lenta. Con el pasar de los meses, el dolor aumentó y su movilidad se fue deteriorando. Tras buscar una segunda opinión, se confirmó que hubo una mala praxis: ella sí necesitaba una cirugía desde un principio. Luego de múltiples exámenes y consultas médicas, se concluyó que la única solución ahora es una prótesis de cadera, ya que enfrenta una necrosis ósea en etapa IV.

Como familia, simplemente no contamos con los medios económicos para cubrir una cirugía de $18,880 USD—especialmente considerando la difícil situación económica en Venezuela.
