I am writing this story about a terrible thing that just happened to my dear sister. She is an 80-year-old widow who lives alone outside of Denver, Colorado. Recently, she was contacted by an online group of criminals who convinced her she was part of an ongoing investigation into a money laundering scheme. They told her she was at risk of being arrested as an accomplice. Over two weeks, she was harassed and threatened, and they convinced her to withdraw her entire life savings and turn it over to them. Fearing for her safety, she closed her retirement fund account and followed their instructions to purchase gold, which she then handed over to their so-called 'undercover agent.' Sadly, this was a well-orchestrated scam, and the criminals disappeared with everything.

Now, my sister is left with only a small amount in her checking account to live on for the rest of her life. She is not employed, has ongoing medical issues, and relies solely on her monthly social security check. I am heartbroken for her, as she has nowhere to turn. There is no family who can assist, and she feels helpless, embarrassed, and hopeless after falling victim to this scheme.
