There are moments in life when we’re called to step up, not because it’s easy, but because it’s right. Today, I’m asking for your help for someone who has spent this summer facing hardship most of us can only imagine, my sister.

She is a survivor of domestic violence. A woman who has shown unimaginable courage in the face of fear, betrayal, and loss. This summer, she finally broke free from a long and painful relationship with her soon-to-be ex-husband, a man struggling with addiction whose actions have torn apart the fabric of her life and the lives of their children.

Since leaving him, the damage hasn’t stopped. He’s broken into her home. He’s stolen money from their children’s piggy banks. He took back the truck he once gave to their 16-year-old son, a vehicle my nephew had just put his own hard-earned savings into, trying to make it road-ready and safe. And worst of all, he took the vehicles my sister desperately relied on to transport their 17-year-old son, who lives with special needs, to critical medical and transplant appointments.

Let me be clear: this isn’t just about a stolen car. This is about a mother who is now walking to get her sick child the care he needs, when every minute, every mile, matters.

Because of her son’s ongoing medical emergencies, my sister cannot work right now. And for years, she was isolated from employment altogether, not by choice, but by control. Her abuser insisted on being the “breadwinner,” making sure she never had the chance to stand on her own feet. Now, with her household in pieces, she’s doing everything she can to keep a roof over her children’s heads, but without support, she’s on the brink of homelessness.

But even in this storm, she has not given up. She is fighting. She’s trying. And she’s doing everything she can to create a safe, stable, and healthy life for her children.

That’s where we come in.

I’ve started this GoFundMe to help my sister secure a reliable vehicle, cover urgent housing needs, and give her a shot at starting fresh. Every dollar will go directly toward rebuilding, toward dignity, transportation, and a new beginning.

This is about community. It’s about standing beside survivors. It’s about making sure that one more family doesn’t fall through the cracks because someone else tried to take their power away.
