Two days ago, my sister’s life changed forever. On her way home from work, she was run over three times and She’s now in the ICU in Lafayette, Louisiana, having already undergone two surgeries, with another scheduled for tomorrow. The doctors have told us she is permanently paralyzed from the waist down. She doesn’t even know this yet, and our family is still trying to process the news ourselves.
We’re waiting for her to finish her surgeries so she can be transferred to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where we live. Our family is preparing to care for her full-time, and her boyfriend is moving here to help as well. To make our home accessible, we need to sell our current car and buy one that she can use, rip up the carpet so she can move around in her wheelchair, and remodel the bathroom so she can bathe safely and comfortably. On top of that, we’re facing mounting medical bills and know she’ll need a hospital bed and a better wheelchair than what the hospital can provide while we are also trying to figure out how to keep a place to stay for my mom and grandma while they are in Louisiana with her .
Beyond the physical injuries, my sister is autistic and has struggled with depression and anxiety her whole life. We are deeply concerned about how she will adjust to this new reality, and she will need extensive rehabilitation and therapy to help her heal both physically and emotionally. Every donation will go directly toward her medical bills, home modifications, equipment, and the ongoing therapy she’ll need to regain some independence and find hope again. Thank you for caring about my sister and for being part of her journey to recovery.UPDATE ON JULIES CONDITION.She has had 4 surgeries. 1st surgery was to repair her back. She has rods, screws and bolts in it. 2nd surgery was to give her an colostomy bag, and repair her colon. 3rd surgery was to fix her right arm (it was broken). 4th surgery was to close her up from the 2nd surgery and to debreed her rectum.
