I'm fundraising for my sister Michelle LaMothe, wife and mother of 11 year old twins, who was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease a few years ago and has been mostly bed ridden with severe chronic fatigue, IBS and fibromyalgia for the last 7 years. Michelle can barely talk, walk or do any physical activity. It's a struggle to get up to go to the bathroom and bathe. She's in a wheelchair and she can no longer drive, read, write, or even look at a screen without extreme pain and fatigue. She's down to her body only being able to tolerate a dozen foods and has lost 20 pounds in the last 2 months. Sadly, she literally can't do anything that a healthy person can do.

 

Typically, knowing the diagnoses helps find the cure, but the challenge is that my sister was misdiagnosed for many years and the Lyme disease wasn't found until over a decade after she already had it. The longer a person has Lyme, unfortunately the harder it is to come back from. Lyme goes deep into cells, tissues and mitochondria and has negative effects on the entire nervous system and brain. When it gets that deep into the body, like it has with my sister, the effects are detrimental. It's hard to watch my sister suffer as much as she does every single day.

 

The most effective treatments for chronic Lyme disease are very expensive and not covered by health insurance. We're talking at least $500 per week for tests/bloodwork, IV therapy, herbs/supplements, b12 shots, and other therapies for my sister to get the care that she needs to get better. That's why I decided to raise money for my sister Michelle's Lyme disease treatments. She's now living with me in Santa Cruz, CA and there are many practitioners and integrative doctors out here who take a more proactive approach to treatments and we are finding many angels to assist with my sister's healing from Lyme. Her care is urgently needed as her condition worsens by the day.
