Help My Sister Kaitlin Recover from the Eaton Fire
Donation protected
In early 2024, my sister, Kaitlin, moved from Canada to Los Angeles with all of her belongings to help deliver street medicine to people experiencing homelessness across California. Now, she is unhoused herself, navigating a natural disaster in a country that isn’t her own.
Kaitlin lost her home in the Eaton Fire. While it wasn’t completely destroyed, the damage was so severe—and the remaining belongings so toxic—that she will likely be unable to keep anything beyond a few small items. She’s evacuated with just a small backpack and her kittens before the fire wiped out her neighbourhood. She’s received some initial FEMA assistance and loss-of-use funds from renters insurance, but it’s nowhere near enough to cover the full costs of displacement, replacing essentials, and rebuilding her life.
Despite everything, Kaitlin is determined to continue her work. She has spent years fighting for others—advocating for housing, healthcare, and human rights. Now, she needs support to return to baseline so she can keep going.
Every donation, big or small, will help her find stable housing, recover lost necessities and furniture, get veterinary care for her cats, and begin to rebuild a home. Once her immediate needs are met, any additional funds will go toward purchasing food and hygiene supplies for people experiencing homelessness on the streets of LA, including many impacted by the fires.
If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign or sending words of support means the world. Thank you for standing with Kaitlin when she needs it most.
