Help Get Urgent Lupus Care in the Philippines

Hello everyone, my name is Nia and I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of my family to support my sister, Janelle. Janelle was diagnosed with Lupus at the age of 24 in February of 2025.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack itself, and without proper treatment, it can lead to severe organ damage and become life-threatening.
Janelle was a healthy, strong, hardworking young woman. She was in school, working and always helping our family whenever she could. She had many goals and aspirations but everything changed when the stress of day to day life took a toll of her health.
Recently, her condition has progressed into lupus nephritis, a serious complication where Lupus attacks the kidneys. This development is especially dangerous and requires close monitoring, specialist care, and advanced treatment to prevent permanent kidney failure.
Unfortunately, Papua New Guinea has very limited access to specialized care for autoimmune diseases and kidney complications like lupus nephritis. The level of treatment and monitoring she urgently needs is not available locally. Because of this, my family has agreed to send her to the Philippines, where she can receive proper specialist care and life-saving treatment.
The cost of medical travel, treatment, accommodation, medications, and ongoing care is too high for just my family to manage. This fundraiser is to help cover:
• Medical transport to Australia
• Specialist consultations and hospital treatment
• Medications and ongoing kidney monitoring
• Accommodation and basic living expenses during treatment
I currently live in Canada, which is why I am organizing this fundraiser on her behalf. All funds raised will go directly toward getting her the urgent medical care she needs.
This has been an incredibly difficult fight, not only for my sister but for all of us who love her and are watching her health slip away. She is incredibly strong and still fighting, but she needs this treatment to have a real chance at getting better.
