On October 24th, what should have been an ordinary day turned into a nightmare. My sister, a single mom doing everything she can to provide, and her 2-year-old daughter were involved in a terrifying rollover accident that completely destroyed their vehicle. By what can only be described as a miracle, her daughter walked away unharmed—but my sister suffered severe, life-altering injuries. Because of the seriousness of her condition, she was life flighted to a trauma center, she spent time in the ICU sedated and intubated where she later woke up with no memory of what happened. She was then moved to a regular floor for a week, undergoing emergency surgeries, treatment, and evaluation. Her injuries included the traumatic amputation of multiple fingertips, a broken orbital bone, deep lacerations to her face, a brain bleed, and brain swelling. She faces continued monitoring and additional surgeries as she begins the long, difficult process of healing. She has been released under very strict restrictions, making even daily tasks nearly impossible. She cannot return to her apartment because it requires climbing stairs—something she cannot do at all in her current state. On top of this, doctors have ordered her out of work for at least six weeks, likely longer. Now without a vehicle, without income, and with significant medical needs and temporary housing challenges, she is overwhelmed—and she truly needs help.
