Hey friends! If we are close, you probably already know what happened to my sister and her kids, or at least that my sister didn't talk to anyone in my family for many years. For those that don't know me personally, this is a long story. The long and short of it is, that my sister NEEDS an international lawyer. The retainer is $10,000, but the total cost to win this battle could be much much more.
In 2013 my sister met a man, and married him in only a few short months. She felt like he was a righteous person and trusted this was for the best. She'd been married before and had 2 kids from that marriage. My whole family had an uneasy feeling with this guy and his parents. It was not good. Almost immediately they moved with his parents and her 2 girls to Costa Rica. They cut off all communication and refused to give us an address or phone number. All we had was email. Things got ugly quick and in the end Nikki didn't talk to us for more than 6 years, this was her choice.
This past year my grandmother passed away, and we notified her husband by email. 2 days later Nikki was flying home. Why was she coming back now? After all these years? We picked her up from the airport and she came home with us. Supposedly for the funeral, and to return to Costa Rica in 2 weeks.
She looked horrible. My daughters who barely remembered her, asked if my sister was anorexic. She was very pale and thin. It wasn't long before we realized that she wasn't being allowed by her husband to return. She had a son with him there, and he was 5 years old now. She was in a panic. Her baby thought she was coming back, but she couldn't. It didn't take long before we realized that the entire time she was there, she was basically just a servant. They never left the compound, and never even took my niece's to see the ocean. One of my niece's did all the gardening, and the other all the barn chores for the farm. Jessica, the younger one, was banished to the workers quarters to be alone for 3 years. She had no bathroom out there, and had to pee in a luggable loo and empty it daily. There is more abuse than could ever be described here. Things I can not say. Extremely horrible. My sisters kid with this man is here now, but he's trying to come up and take him back. He thinks my sister is coming back to Costa Rica as well. Unfortunately the law is on his side with their son. Because she never worked, or made any money, the father would get custody. She will go back to that household if she can't get custody in a divorce. It's so complicated and she needs a lawyer. We have tried and exhausted every resource. Please help if you can. My sister needs her freedom, and to start a new life. She needs prayers too! Please share this if you feel compelled to do so. Much love and blessings to you all
