Help My Recovering Mom Get a Safe Car and a Fresh Start
Hi, you can call me Rey, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my incredible mother. She’s one of the strongest, most selfless people I know—and right now, she needs help. I have never created or tried to promote a gofundme before, so im nervous, but we need all the help we can get.
My mom is currently relying on a rundown car that belongs to her elderly father, my grandfather. It’s unreliable, unsafe, and it’s not truly hers. She’s never asked for much, but what she needs now is simple: a car of her own. Something dependable that gives her back her independence—and a way out.
For years, we’ve both been stuck in a toxic, crowded family environment that’s taken a toll on our mental and emotional health in many ways—verbal abuse and threats of violence are not uncommon. Sometimes it really does escalate to physical violence between family members, and police has been called out multiple times.
We’ve stayed longer than we should have out of necessity, but we’re finally ready to leave and start over from the ones that aren’t good for us anymore, and don’t make us happy.
A car would give her the freedom to work, to drive safely, and most importantly, to move away and rebuild a life where she—and we—can feel safe again.
Recently, my mom had surgery to have all her teeth removed and is still recovering. She had to take time off to heal, which set us back financially.
Now, she’s working two delivery (Dasher) jobs, hustling every day, trying to save up—but it’s slow going, and every delay puts more strain on her and leaves us stuck in a place we desperately need to leave.
There also are not very many job well paying job opportunities in this small town, so for now our plan is to try and find a place a town over and get better jobs before attempting to move out of state. But we need our own car for that, we need our independence. She needs her independence.
To be clear: our plans are not to immediately get out, but to save funds for when we finally can. There is a family member here we have to find a home for, and then we have to find a place before we pack up. Saving back and have our own car will up speed this along, and if it comes down to it, find a cheap hotel to safely stay at where we’re able to get there without someone else driving us there.
We’re not asking for luxury—just enough to help her buy a reliable used vehicle, something that won’t break down or risk her safety every time she starts the engine.
If you’ve ever needed a second chance, or if you believe in helping someone strong get back on their feet, please consider donating or sharing this. Every little bit brings her closer to freedom, safety, and the fresh start she’s fought so hard to deserve.
Thank you for reading, supporting, and believing.
