For 20 years, my parents have called the same rental house home. Even though they didn't own it, they treated it like they did -- filling it with love, hard work, and so much care and spirit.
Over the years, they repeatedly asked management for critical repairs, particularly for ongoing electrical and structural issues. Many of those concerns went unresolved or were patched with temporary, “cost-effective” fixes.
On the morning of June 30th, what is now believed to be an electrical fire tore through their home. Thankfully, my parents were not harmed, but the fire caused extensive damage, resulting in complete demolition, and forcing them to leave the home they had built their lives around. It's still unclear whether they'll ever be able to return. They are now navigating insurance battles, remediation, and temporary housing while coping with the loss of so much.
As they are not native English speakers, every phone call, form, and decision has made this process even more difficult. My parents came to this country with nothing, knowing no one. Through years of hard work and sacrifice, they built a life they were proud of. They have always been the kind of people who help others and rarely ask for anything in return, which makes asking for help now especially difficult.
If you're able to donate, no matter the amount, it will help them begin rebuilding their lives. If you aren't able to give, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much. Thank you for even taking the time to read this -- your kindness and support mean more to our family than words can express.
