**UPDATE FROM MY PARENTS 1/1/26**
A devastating flash flood has destroyed our 1949 Redding CA home, that we have loved and cared for the last 12 years & we are humbly asking for help to rebuild the house that means everything to us.
For decades, our 1949 home in Redding has been the heart of our family, a true piece of local history and the place where we raised our kids and poured in our love.
We never once worried about flooding here; this neighborhood has always felt safe, which makes what happened all the more shocking and heartbreaking.
During the recent catastrophic storm, water rose so fast that we truly felt if we stayed, we might die; that is how quickly it was rushing in once it got dark.
The photos and videos we have do not come close to capturing the terror and chaos of that night, or the destruction we woke up to the next day.
Our entire house was flooded, forcing us to cut every wall at least 2 feet up from the floor and as high as 4 feet in some areas just to try to save the structure.
We had to cut into our original 1949 knotty pine wood walls, and we may have to demolish our beloved original pink bathroom because of extensive water damage.
Our swimming pool was completely inundated with sewer water and had to be emptied and dealt with as a contaminated site. Both of our shops took up to 4 feet of water; it was like someone poured water into the buildings, shook them, and walked away, leaving everything destroyed and scattered.
We did not have flood insurance because in all our years here, flooding was never considered a realistic risk, and now we are facing these costs entirely on our own.
Just the drying process was overwhelming: we spent about $1,000 on industrial fans alone, and every wall, room, and shop now needs repair, replacement, and professional work.
The entire contents of our house are in storage while we try to figure out if our home can be safely rebuilt or if even more demolition will be needed.
On top of that, we are looking at structural repairs, plumbing and electrical work, flooring, insulation, and potential demolition of original features that can never truly be replaced.
I live with a rare disease that flares with severe stress, and this disaster has pushed my body to a dangerous limit at the same time that the work load has exploded. I physically cannot do much of the heavy work needed to recover and rebuild, which means we have to pay for labor on top of materials, storage, and temporary living expenses.
How your support will help:
Every dollar donated will go directly toward:
• Drying, remediation, and mold prevention in the house and shops
• Rebuilding cut and destroyed walls, floors, and insulation
• Repairing or replacing damaged plumbing, electrical, and structural elements
• Addressing the contaminated pool and making the property safe again
• Reducing the massive financial and physical burden on us so we can focus on healing and rebuilding our home
We are not asking for help to replace furniture or personal belongings; our priority is saving and rebuilding the house itself so we can return home and one day welcome our kids—and future grandkids—back through that front door.
If you are able, please consider donating or sharing our story.
Any amount truly helps, and every share extends our reach and gives us a little more hope that we can rebuild after this disaster.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us take even one step closer to home.
*ORIGINAL POST*
Hi everyone, my parents were hit quite hard with the recent flooding in Redding. My mom called me at 4pm Sunday evening saying the water was rising quickly in the backyard and sent me the picture shown. By the time they left at around 7pm, the shop where my dad is shown walking, was under 5’ of water and the house had water above their knees. This devastates me because they have spent the last 10+ years working so hard on their house to make it a dream home. They were months away from finally completing all renovations and being able to relax in the home they worked so hard for. My dad who has spent his entire life working as hard as he can, going back and forth from retired to running his own business to provide for my mom and help with her medical bills, has lost everything he has accumulated in his shops because of that 5’ of water. The nova he has spent 20 years rebuilding, taking it down to frame and building back up with all stock parts, had one more thing to be done prior to finally running 100%, the screen printing equipment, his beloved drum set (he’s been a drummer for 50+years), all of his landscaping equipment for work, all the personal tools and yard equipment for the house. One of the shops they can’t even get into because the water has pushed everything up against the door blocking it. As far as the home goes, the interior is all wood. Floors, walls, ceilings. They are trying their hardest to do what they can, and thankfully have some incredible neighbors who are trying to help. Fans are going, the fire is going, trying to dry out as much as they can. My dad already is ripping out the floors to help with any mold damage. My mom is trying to go through everything to fully assess the damage that has been done to everything in the house, but it’s going to take a while. They do have home insurance, but no flood insurance. I don’t know what insurance is going to be able to help them with, they will also be reaching out to the Red Cross.
My parents have been through so much and I don’t need them stressing about what kind of extra jobs they need to take on to help with these new expenses. If you can donate, it would be greatly appreciated ❤️ I will be posting more pictures soon as my mom sends them to me.
